The Hub

A new state of the art Springfield Sangamon County Transportation Hub is planned to open in downtown Springfield. The new facility will include the Amtrak station, a food/beverage option, a new parking garage and other amenities in a county square. From the front entrance to the Hub on 9th Street, visitors will be able to also access a newly renovated county building with access to many services on the first floor in the new atrium. Visitors will also be able to access the new Sangamon Mass Transit District bus transfer station and Greyhound by walking over a sky bridge over the 10th Street railroad tracks.

Sangamon County has also purchased the former State Journal-Register building which is located right next door to the current county building. Plans are underway to consolidate services in this space as well.

This is a bird's eye video rendering of The Hub that includes the new SMTD facility with the pedestrian bridge over the 10th Street railroad tracks that connects to the County Square and Amtrak station. Updates to the design will be made before it is finalized.
A renovation of the Sangamon County building began in the Summer of 2022 and is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2024 and will connect to the Hub when it is completed.

As the project progresses, this website will be updated with new information.
