The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties primarily as an LEHP or LEHP in Training.

Responsibilities

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties primarily as an LEHP or LEHP in Training. These duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ability to interpret and apply complex federal, state, and local laws in different environmental health programs
  • Assist in emergency response efforts and food-borne disease investigation
  • Attend seminars, workshops, and educational trainings related to environmental health activities
  • Conduct preliminary and final inspections of food service establishments, private wells, private sewage disposal systems, and non-hazardous solid waste management sites rela- tive to applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Develop and distribute post-inspection reports to relevant stakeholders
  • Investigate complaint-driven public health nuisances
  • Provides consultation and education to organizational owners and contractors regarding applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Perform vector surveillance and environmental sampling

The work assigned to this position may not include all possible tasks in this description and does not limit the assignment of any additional tasks for this position.

Requirements
  • A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health
    • OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 hours of Applied Sciences
  • On occasions and in the event of a public health emergency, this position may be required to work evening and/or weekends

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in Environmental Health
    • OR experience in Public Health
  • Proficient in foreign language
  • Strong oral and written abilities

Benefits

Salary & Benefits: up to $57,883.14 depending on qualifications; 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 paid personal days, 12 paid sick leave days and 13 paid holidays per year. Individual and Family health, dental and life insurance options, mileage reimbursement, death benefits and retirement are available. Use of take home county vehicle and clothing allotment.
