The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties as a Health Educator.

Responsibilities
  • Design education materials
  • Develop classroom curriculum
  • Develop and maintain relationships with agencies and schools
  • Manage logistics for programs including survey administration, data collection, incentive distribution and reporting
  • Utilize Microsoft Office suite and other applications to develop handouts, presentations, and other relevant products for the health education program
  • Assist the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health in developing, and preparing educational materials for various Environmental Health Programs including but not limited to food safety, solid waste disposal, private sewage  systems, mosquito control, private wells
  • Have the ability to become certified to teach the Certified Food Protection Managers Course and proctor the exam
  • Prepare and perform Environmental Health Presentations, with direction and oversight from the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health, on various Environmental Health topics at various locations in Sangamon and Menard Counties for a variety audiences including but not limited to school children, restaurant staff, food vendors, community groups, oversight boards, etc.

Requirements
  • A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment. 
  • Ability to use personal automobile with proof of current insurance
  • Bachelor’s degree in health education, behavioral or biological science
  • Must work evenings and weekends as assigned
Skills
  • Excellent communicator, verbally and in writing
  • Feel comfortable speaking with diverse groups of youth and adults about sensitive topics
  • Able to work in a small team environment with a high degree of independence and self- management.
  • Be a self-starter with excellent follow-through and organizational skills.
  • Experience with website maintenance and social media
  • Secondary language skills 
     
Benefits

This position is covered by Laborer's Local #477 Union. Salary: $48,120.44yr/$24.68hr; 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 paid personal days, 12 paid sick leave days and 13 paid holidays per year.
