The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties primarily as an Environmental Health Supervisor – Food Program. 

Responsibilities
  • Assists in preparing and reviewing records and reports of an operational, professional and research nature as it relates to environmental health; including conducting restaurant plan reviews and pre-operational inspections and consultations of new facilities.
  • Assists in training, and evaluating the work activities of environmental health staff members. This includes but is not limited to assisting with orientation and in arranging for in-service education and training of environmental health staff to maintain compliance with IDPH requirements.
  • Assists in providing effective supervision and leadership to the Environmental Health Division Staff responsible for food program activities.  
  • Assists in preparing and amending ordinances, rules and regulations for consideration by appropriate authorities.
  • Actively participates in the programs and activities of professional organizations, companies, and citizens as it relates to food service to the public through temporary events. 
  • Assists the Director of Environmental Health in adapting existing environmental health programs to changing community needs and in the initiation of new programs.
  • Assists the Director of Environmental Health in instituting control measures for the protection of public health and safety in cooperation with appropriate agencies. This includes providing educational services to clients and facilities served by the Department and the community at large.
Requirements
  • A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
  • Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment. 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health
    • OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 hours of Applied Sciences
  • On occasions and in the event of a public health emergency, this position will be required to work evening and/or weekends
  • Prior experience in Environmental Health
    • OR experience in Public Health
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Possess a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner’s License

Benefits

Work Hours: 8a-430p Monday-Friday

Salary: $59,876-$74,845/yr; $30.71-$38.38/hr Depending on experience

2 weeks paid vacation, 12 paid sick leave days, 3 paid personal days, 13 paid holidays per year
