What does it mean when my taxes go to tax sale?
This means you did not pay your taxes by the due date that year and they have since been sold at the annual tax sale. Once sold you will be able to obtain an estimate of redemption and redeem them through the County Clerk’s Office. You will be responsible for paying late fees, interest and tax sale fees that have accrued.

What are the acceptable forms of payment for taxes?
Tax sales must be paid with certified funds, a cashier’s check, money order or cash and is payable to the Sangamon County Clerk. No personal or business checks or credit cards can be accepted.
Current year taxes can be paid with a personal check or cash and are payable to the County Treasurer/Collector.
