Fireworks Display Information

For displays in Sangamon County Only (Outside all incorporated city, town and village limits)

Permits will only be issued to an adult individual that will have a lead pyrotechnic operator conducting the display that is licensed by the Illinois State Fire Marshal pursuant to the Pyrotechnic Operating Licensing Act. Who may apply?

Any adult individual that will have a lead pyrotechnic operator conducting the display that is licensed by the Illinois State Fire Marshal pursuant to the Pyrotechnic Operating Licensing Act.  For an application from the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office, click here.

Information Required

  • The name, address and phone number of the individual sponsoring the display
  • The name, address and phone number of the individual who will conduct the display
  • The place, date and time the display will be held
  • Attach proof of pyrotechnic license
  • Attach proof of liability insurance of not less than $1,000,000.00
  • Attach proof that proposed display site has been inspected and approved by the fire department

Cost

A fee of $25.00 per display date must be accompanied with the application. Upon approval, the permit will be promptly mailed to the individual authorized to conduct the display. Valid ID required when paying with a personal check or credit card.

Bond Information
Applicants are required to show proof of liability insurance of not less than $1,000,000.00

Deadline for Application

The deadline is always fifteen (15) days in advance of the pyrotechnic display date.

Restrictions

  • No pyrotechnic display shall be conducted within the setback requirements established by the Illinois State Fire Marshal
  • No pyrotechnic display shall be conducted within 600 feet of any hospital, asylum, infirmary, nursing home, convalescent home or retirement facility.

No Permit Necessary for Novelty Fireworks which include:
Sparklers, snakes, smoke devices, trick noisemakers, toy pistols, toy canes, toy guns, or other devices in which paper or plastic caps containing twenty-five hundredths grains or less of explosive compound are used, provided they are so constructed that the hand cannot come in contact with the cap when in place for the explosion.
