Sangamon County Board Vice-Chair Lori Williams to Step Down

Sangamon County Board Vice-Chair Lori Williams has announced her decision to step down from the County Board, effective December 31st, to pursue new professional opportunities and increased responsibilities at her full-time employer. 

Reflecting on her tenure, Williams stated, "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Sangamon County. I am deeply grateful for the support of my constituents and the collaborative spirit of my fellow board members. Together, we have achieved significant accomplishments, and I am confident that the County will continue to thrive."

Williams was first elected in 2016 and assumed the role of Vice-Chair in 2019. In addition to her role as Vice-Chair, Williams served on the Finance and Road and Bridge standing committees and as Chair of the Community Resources committee. 

Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter said, "Lori has been a steadfast advocate for Sangamon County, showing exceptional leadership and dedication throughout her time on the County Board. Her contributions have been invaluable. We thank Lori and wish her the best in future endeavors."

According to Illinois law, the Sangamon County Board Chair shall nominate someone to fill the County Board position within 60 days of the vacancy with confirmation by the County Board. 

Chairman Van Meter intends to nominate Riverton Mayor Tom Rader to fill the County Board District #8 vacancy. The formal nomination is scheduled for the January 16th County Board meeting.
