Marriage Ceremonies

The following information is provided to answer the most commonly asked questions regarding marriage ceremonies.

Do we need a marriage license?
Yes, you must obtain your license at least one day and no more than 60 days prior to your ceremony

How do we get the marriage license?
Please contact the County Clerk's office at 753-6700 or  www.sangamoncountyclerk.com for the license fee and information requirements.

Is a blood test required?
No, a blood test is no longer required by law.

Where are the marriage ceremonies performed?
They are performed in Room 404 on the fourth floor of the Sangamon County Complex, which is located at 200 S. Ninth Street, Springfield, IL 62701.

When are the marriage ceremonies performed?
Depending on availability, ceremonies are held Monday through Friday 11:30am or 1:15pm.  Both members of the couple must be present and should plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early.  Late arrivals will need to reschedule.

Do we need to schedule a date for our ceremony?
Yes, ceremonies need to be scheduled 2 weeks in advance by calling the wedding desk at (217)535-3186.

What type of ceremony is it?
The court will perform a private ceremony that takes about 10-15 minutes.

Is there a fee?
Yes, there is a $10.00 fee payable at the time of registration for your ceremony.  This fee should be paid prior to ceremony in Room 405 of the County Building.

Do we need to bring a witness?
No, witnesses are not necessary. Guests are welcome and invited to attend.
