The Sangamon County Office of Emergency Management is seeking applicants for the position of Director. This leadership position will require the successful applicant to demonstrate strong capabilities within the continuum of emergency management for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities. The Director will lead the County's planning and preparation for, response to, and recovery from any type of disaster emergency, thus being the coordination point between local governments and state/federal governments by managing an office that educates and assists local governments in their planning, preparation, response, and recovery matters and which assists state and federal governments in administering their disaster emergency programs designed to aid and protect local citizens. Under the Director's supervision, the Rescue Squad Chief manages day-to-day operations of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad, while the Director provides strategic oversight to ensure the squad's readiness and effectiveness in serving the community.  The Director will further aid and protect local citizens by overseeing the maintenance of the County's 2-way radio system utilized by rural fire departments for all communications with the County's dispatchers.

Responsibilities

The Director will lead the office in meeting all its obligations for continued accreditation by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). He or she will lead the preparation and revision of any current or newly enacted planning documents required of counties by IEMA. Budgetary and fiscal duties of the Director, will be greatly driven by grant regulations which must be well understood.

Requirements

An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in an area of study consistent with the principles of  Emergency Management (or equivalent relevant experience to a Bachelor's Degree) Examples could include: a degree in Emergency Management, planning, logistics, law enforcement, homeland security or related field.

Veterans are encouraged to apply. In the addition, 5-7 years' relevant work experience in planning, logistics, disaster preparedness, or related fields are required. Grant writing or management a plus. Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license. Must be a Sangamon County resident.

Skills

Incumbent needs strong planning, preparation and organizational skills. Excellent writing skills are a must.

Benefits

Salary range:$72,689--$90,861; 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 paid personal days, 12 paid sick leave days and 13 paid holidays per year. Individual and Family health, dental, and life insurance options, retirement and a take-home vehicle are provided. This position requires the incumbent to be on-call 24/7 when circumstances require.
