The Sangamon County Court Services Department is accepting applications for a full‑time position for Senior Detention Officer at the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center. The shift is unknown at this time, but you must have the ability to work all days and shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

As directed, and in the absence of a supervisor, is responsible for insuring that all work assigned to the shift is handled properly and completely. Assigns daily tasks for staff and insures completion and quality of work. Performs intake investigations, custody services, and helps to plan, implement and evaluate programming on his/her respective shift.

Requirements

Must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major course work in criminal justice, psychology, social work, or related social sciences and at least one year of experience in juvenile detention/residential care facility. MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO WORK ON ANY SHIFT. Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a valid driver’s license. Must pass a criminal and DCFS background check as well as a drug screening.

Skills

Ability and desire to work with delinquent youth in a secure detention setting which may require physical restraint of minors; knowledge of the criminal justice system and ability to supervise staff.

Annual salary of $53,009.00, health, dental, and life insurance; pension plan; deferred
compensation option; paid vacation, sick and personal time.
