Lead Death Investigator

Mike has been employed as a Deputy Coroner since August 2016. As a death investigator Mike's duties include death investigation, collecting evidence, drawing toxicology samples, conduct follow-up/case management on Coroner's Cases to help the Forensic Pathologist and Coroner determine cause and manner of death, and assist grieving families in their time of need. In January 2020 Mike became a registered diplomat with the American Board of Medico-legal Death Investigators. Mike has worked as a Forensic Autopsy Assistant since 2022 assisting the Forensic Pathologist with the autopsy, collecting evidence, and collecting specimens for additional testing. Mike was named the 2023 Investigator of the year for the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office. In 2025 Mike was promoted to Lead Death Investigator. In this role Mike now assists in the training of staff on topics such as investigative protocols and techniques, proper removal techniques, and the required standards of the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office, among others. Mike has recently been appointed to the State of Illinois Adult Fatality Review Team beginning in 2026.
