Clyde Bunch is the longest serving county board member currently on the Board. He became a member of the Board in 1978 for District 21. Mr. Bunch was a founding member of the Juvenile Center Task Force, which was established to build a new juvenile center in Sangamon County. Since 1978, Clyde has served on the Court Services Committee, which has oversight of the Juvenile and Adult Probation Departments, which have merged to become the Court Services Department.

Clyde has helped to bring many improvements in government efficiency over the years. He has seen the County build a new court house and jail, the Juvenile Center, an Office of Emergency Management, a 911 Dispatch Center, an Animal Control Center and a new Public Health & Community Services building without raising taxes.

Over the years, Clyde has served on many of the standing committees for the County Board. He has served on the Finance Committee for many years, along with the Road & Bridge Committee, Collective Bargaining, Court Services  and Election Oversight. Previously, Clyde had served on the Community Resource Committee.

Clyde has been called upon by Chair Van Meter to serve on a number of ad hoc committees. Many of these committees have concluded in the development of new ordinances, policies, programs or structures. Clyde is currently on the Sangamo Scripts Committee, which oversees the county drug prescription program for over 10,000 people, the Special Committee for the Sangamon Valley Trail, the Mobile Home Shelter Ad Hoc Committee, the Comprehensive Fire District Committee, that worked to develop fire districts in the unincorporated areas of Sangamon County, the Smoking Ban Ad Hoc Committee, the Workplace Safety Board, the Community Service Block Grant Board (CSBG) and the Juvenile Center Review Committee. He is a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee, which oversees animal control issues and the Sewer Rebate Benefit Board. Clyde is also Chair of the Workplace Safety Board, which deals with worker's comp cases.

During Clyde’s tenure, Sangamon County has also been apart of several consolidations with the City of Springfield. The County Sheriff’s Department took over the jail from the city in the 1980’s. In the mid 1990’s, the county also took over the responsibility of running the elections for the city and the IL State Board of Elections, the 911 dispatchers and the animal control services. Most recently, the city and county Public Health Departments merged together to be run by the county.

Clyde is a life long resident of District 21, married with two children and they have raised 23 foster children. He has worked in all areas of local government and is now retired.
