Sangamon County Coroner’s Office Honored with Life Changer Award

The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office was recognized by the Gift of Hope Community Foundation during its inaugural Light It Up Purple for Hope celebration in Springfield. The event highlighted the impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation across central and southern Illinois, honoring community partners who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to supporting donor families and saving lives through donation.

During the ceremony, Coroner Jim Allmon and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office received the Life Changer Award for Outstanding Teams, recognizing their extraordinary partnership with Gift of Hope and their continued dedication to serving families with compassion and professionalism.

“This recognition truly belongs to our entire team and the families we serve,” said Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon. “We see firsthand how the gift of donation transforms tragedy into purpose, and we’re grateful to be part of that process.”

Gift of Hope is a federally designated, nonprofit organ procurement organization that has coordinated organ and tissue donations across Illinois and northwest Indiana since 1986. The foundation works with hospitals, transplant centers, and community partners to raise awareness and increase organ and tissue donation. Since its founding, Gift of Hope has helped save more than 29,000 lives through organ donation and improved the quality of life for hundreds of thousands more through tissue donation.

Sangamon County is proud of the Coroner’s Office for receiving this recognition and commends their continued service to the community. The County extends its gratitude to Gift of Hope for its ongoing partnership and efforts to support donor families and honor the life-saving power of donation.
