The competition is open to all high school seniors in Sangamon County for the 2026–2027 school year. Each participating school may submit one 2D and one 3D original artwork, selected by their school’s art teacher.
Selected pieces will be featured in a public art exhibit at the Sangamon County Building from December 2026 through February 2027, offering students a unique opportunity to have their work displayed in a prominent civic space.
Prizes will be awarded:
- 1st Place: $100
- 2nd Place: $75
- 3rd Place: $50
Winners will be selected by members of the Sangamon County Board.
Schools can drop off the selected artwork at the Springfield Art Association (700 N. 4th Street, Springfield) from November 16–18, 2026.
“Our students are shaping the future of Sangamon County, and this is one way we can recognize their artistic talents. We’re proud to provide an opportunity that highlights both artistic expression and brings our communities together,” said Jen Deaner, Sangamon County board member representing District 25.
“Art education plays a vital role in student development which encourages creativity and confidence. This showcase is a powerful way to celebrate those skills and connect our schools in Sangamon County with the broader community,” added Shannon Fehrholz, superintendent of the Sangamon-Menard Regional Office of Education.
“This competition is about more than just art, it’s about giving young people a platform to be seen and celebrated in their community,” said Betsy Dollar, director of the Springfield Art Association. “We are excited to help showcase the incredible talent coming out of our local schools.”
There is no required theme, allowing students full creative freedom as long as all submissions are original work.
