The Sangamon County Zoning Department is seeking a Clerk Typist to perform general clerical duties of the department, type a variety of materials, answer the telephone and direct calls to appropriate staff, and maintain office files.

* Working knowledge of the zoning ordinance, liquor code, building codes, and the appropriate forms. 
* Assist citizens with the preparation of liquor license applications, building permits and zoning petitions for amendment, variances and conditional permitted uses.
* Answer questions related to the zoning ordinance, liquor code and building code and make initial interpretation of ordinances, subject to final approval by the Zoning Administrator.
* Keep record of map amendments, zoning variances and conditional permitted uses.
* Provide clerical/technical assistance to the Zoning Administrator in the performance of his/her duties related to the Zoning Board of Appeals and administration of the liquor code and building code.
*Maintain annual budget and office equipment.
*Maintain staff schedules. 
*Maintain employee files and payroll.

* High School diploma, bachelor's degree preferred. 

*Working knowledge of enabling state statutes on zoning, liquor and building.
*Experience supervising staff, creativity, and problem-solving ability
*Possess the ability to develop positive relationships with a variety of community, business, government and neighborhood organizations as well as citizens and staff. 
*Experience in dealing with the media and public interest groups is a plus.
*Must have strong communication skills both written and oral.

Work hours: Monday-Friday with hours between 8:00am and 4:30pm
Salary up to $45,111 based on experience. 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 personal days, 12 paid sick leave days and 13 paid holidays per year. Individual and Family health, dental and life insurance options and retirement.
