The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is seeking applicants to perform duties as a Health Educator.

• Attend workshops, seminars, and other educational trainings related to health education as needed for professional growth and grant requirements

• Manage and document relevant services for grant and grant-related activities within the health education program at Sangamon County Department of Public Health as assigned

• Utilize Microsoft Office suite and other applications to develop handouts, presentations, and other relevant products for the health education program

• Plan promotional events throughout Sangamon and Menard County related to health education

• Plan, develop, and implement public presentations regarding important health topics within Sangamon County

• Participate in facilitating health-related educational materials to important stakeholders within Sangamon County

• Assist the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health in developing, and preparing educational materials for various Environmental Health Programs including but not limited to food safety, solid waste disposal, private sewage  systems, mosquito control, private wells

• Have the ability to become certified to teach the Certified Food Protection Managers Course and proctor the exam

• Prepare and perform Environmental Health Presentations, with direction and oversight from the Food Program Manager/Assistant Environmental Health Director and Director of Environmental Health, on various Environmental Health topics at various locations in Sangamon and Menard Counties for a variety audiences including but not limited to school children, restaurant staff, food vendors, community groups, oversight boards, etc.

• A valid Class D Illinois Driver’s License
• Applicants must be a resident of Sangamon County or be willing to move into the County within 6 months of employment. 
• Ability to use personal automobile with proof of current insurance
• Bachelor’s degree in health education, behavioral or biological science
• Must work occasional evenings and weekends as assigned

• Experience with website maintenance and social media
• Secondary language skills
• Experience in health education
• Excellent interpersonal skills 
• Strong public speaking, communication, and writing
• Strong organizational skills

This position is covered by Laborer's Local #477 Union.

Salary: $51,697.03yr/$26.51hr; 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 paid personal days, 12 paid sick leave days and 13 paid holidays per year. 4 weeks Maternity/Paternity paid time off, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Individual and Family health, dental and life insurance options, retirement, death benefits and mileage reimbursements are available.
