The Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office provides legal representation to the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) under the authority of Title IV-D of the Social Security Act and the Illinois Public Aid Act.
To receive assistance with child support enforcement, you must first sign up with HFS for the Title IV-D Program. The program can help you establish paternity, set support, modify support, and enforce support. By law, the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office cannot intervene in a child support case if the case is not active with HFS.
Any custodial or noncustodial parent is eligible for the Title IV-D Program regardless of income.
To initiate a case, call 1-800-447-4278 to reach the Department of Healthcare and Family Services. The Child Support Division of the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office is located on the 3rd floor of the Sangamon County Complex and the phone number is 217-753-2514.
