Sangamon County Animal Control Receives Highest Rating in State Inspection
Sangamon County Animal Control has received the highest possible rating following a recent inspection by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, with no violations identified at the facility. The inspection, conducted on January 16, found the Animal Control Center in full compliance with all state requirements, earning top marks in all 12 evaluation categories reviewed by inspectors.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture conducts routine inspections to ensure animal care facilities meet state standards related to animal welfare, sanitation, record keeping, and daily operations. The official inspection report noted no deficiencies, confirming that the facility met all applicable requirements.
“This inspection result reflects the hard and diligent work done every day by the staff at the Animal Control Center,” said John Ridley, Sangamon County Public Health Director. “We are pleased to see the facility meet all state standards and appreciate the commitment shown by everyone involved.”
James Schackmann, chairman of the Sangamon County Board’s Public Health Committee, said the results highlight both staff performance and county support for animal control operations. “This outcome is a credit to Director Jeanne Keenan and the entire Animal Control team,” Schackmann said. “The County Board has made significant investments in animal control, and this inspection confirms those investments are producing real, positive results for animal welfare and public health.”
Sangamon County Animal Control is subject to regular inspections by the Illinois Department of Agriculture to ensure continued compliance with state regulations and to maintain safe and appropriate conditions for animals in its care.
