Sangamon County Celebrates Opening of New Baseball Exhibits at County Building
Sangamon County hosted an opening reception this week for two new exhibits now on display on the second floor of the Sangamon County Building in downtown Springfield.
The exhibits were developed in partnership with the Sangamon County Historical Society and the Springfield Art Association and highlight both the history and cultural impact of baseball in the community.
One exhibit, “100 Years of Women’s Baseball and Softball in Sangamon County,” explores the history of women’s participation in baseball and softball throughout the county over the past century. The exhibit features historical photographs, information and materials that showcase the growth of the sport and the contributions of local athletes and teams across generations.
The second exhibit features baseball-themed artwork by local artist Rod Buffington in partnership with the Springfield Art Association. The display offers a creative interpretation of the sport through visual art and complements the historical exhibit.
The exhibits are free and open to the public during regular business hours through the end of July at the Sangamon County Building, located at 200 S. 9th St. in Springfield.
