Sangamon County Department of Public Health Accepting Applications for Community Garden Plots

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health is now accepting applications for its new one-acre community garden located at the department’s campus at 2833 South Grand Ave. East in Springfield.

The community garden is intended to provide residents with an affordable opportunity to grow fresh vegetables, herbs, and flowers while encouraging community involvement and outdoor activity during the growing season.

Individual garden plots measuring approximately 10 feet by 10 feet are available for $10 per season. Participants will have access to fertile soil, water, and gardening tools provided on-site. Complimentary seed kits and starter plants will also be available while supplies last.

Applications are available through the Sangamon County Department of Public Health by calling 217-321-2601, emailing john.ridley@sangamonil.gov, messaging the department on Facebook, or visiting the department in person.

Garden plots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis while space remains available.
